Rome Man Dies After Crashing into Power Pole on Highway 140

A 37 year old Rome man was fatally injured in a single-vehicle crash occurring on Highway 140 early Sunday afternoon.  Police reports indicate the driver of that vehicle was traveling eastbound just west of Floyd Springs Road just after 1:00pm, when the right side tires went onto the soft shoulder of the roadway – in turn causing the car to rotate sideways and cross the center line before striking a power pole on the westbound side of the road.

The driver, identified Ramon Gonzalez Morales, was partially ejected, and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

The wreck shut down the highway between Old Dalton Road and Floyd Springs Road for an extended period of time as Georgia Power crews had to make repairs to the damaged utility pole.
