Rome Pedestrian Struck and Killed Near West Rome Walmart Wednesday Night

A woman died after she was hit by a car and then a tractor-trailer in front of the West Rome Walmart on Wednesday night.  According to Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor, the victim was crossing the road when she was hit by a northbound Nissan Frontier that knocked her into the southbound lane and into the path of a tractor-trailer, which ran over her.   58 year old Debbie Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:51pm

Proctor said neither vehicle stopped at the scene.  “Police actually found the first vehicle several miles away from here,” he said.  “The transfer truck, we don’t believe that the driver actually knew that he was involved, because she was knocked her under the truck.”  The driver of the Nissan is likely facing charges.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
