Rose McGowan arrested in Virginia on drug charge

Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office(VIRGINIA) — Rose McGowan was arrested Tuesday on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance.

The actress turned herself in to authorities in Loudoun County in Virginia, on Tuesday, according to a Sheriff’s Office spokesman, and she was released on $5,000 bond.

According to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, a warrant was obtained for McGowan’s arrest on the possession charge back in February, after the MWAA says that personal belongings left behind by the actress on a United flight arriving in Washington Dulles International Airport in January tested positive for narcotics.

McGowan spoke to The New Yorker about the circumstances surrounding the arrest saying she had been contacted by a detective telling her she could retrieve her lost wallet but not mentioning that anything had been found in it, which, allegedly was cocaine.  McGowan said she didn’t turn herself in right away out of fear.

“I was going to ASAP,” McGowan told The New Yorker, “but then things started to get really weird. I knew I was being followed and that I wasn’t safe. I even hired a private investigator to investigate whether the warrant was real.”

McGowan and her attorney, Jim Hundley, are arguing that the drugs could have been planted according to a memorandum to the Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorney asking that the charges be dismissed, cited by The New Yorker.

“I will clearly plead not guilty,” McGowan told the magazine.
