Russell Jacoway Honored By Greater Alabama Council Boy Scouts

Former Sand Rock football coach Russell Jacoway was recently honored by the Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America in a special presentation.

The Cherokee County Friends of Scouting Breakfast welcomed scout members and various community leaders to the Centre First United Methodist Church on West Main Street, where Jacoway was presented with the Heart of an Eagle Award.

The honor is unique to the Greater Alabama Council BSA, and given to individuals who have lived by the Scout Oath and Law.

Al Shumaker, Chairman of the Cherokee County FOS, presented the award following a speech summarizing Jacoway’s life and career to those in attendance at the breakfast.

Russell Jacoway has had a plethora of personal achievements, especially in football where he compiled a 223-125 career record as a head coach, a 1A state championship with Sand Rock in 1985, a 2A state runner up in 1997, 1985 & 1997 ASWA Coach of the Year, and other accolades as mentioned by Shumaker.

Following the giving of the Heart of an Eagle Award, Keynote Speaker and retired Alabama Representative Richard Lindsey took the opportunity to speak and congratulated to Coach Jacoway on the new achievement.
