San Diego Sacks New Stadium Proposal

Scott Clarke / ESPN Images(SAN DIEGO) – For San Diego Chargers fans, there may have been something more important on the ballot than choosing the next commander-in-chief. On Tuesday, voters in San Diego voted against Measure C, the team’s proposed $1.8 billion downtown stadium and convention center annex.

The ballot initiative required two-thirds of the voting public within city limits to approve the project. Only 43-pecent approved the measure.

With the city’s decision made, the Chargers will look to explore other new stadium options. The leading choice is to leave San Diego for Inglewood, Calif. to share an in-the-works stadium with the newly relocated Los Angeles Rams. As part of the Rams’ relocation agreement, the Chargers have until Jan. 15 to decide if the team wants to move. If the Chargers decide to stay in San Diego, the Oakland Raiders could potentially move back to Los Angeles.

However, with the Raiders exploring a move to Las Vegas, the Chargers may be able to extend that deadline.
