UPDATED: Sand Rock earns another Class 2A, Area 12 volleyball title

SAND ROCK — Coming off a subpar performance to end the regular volleyball season on Saturday, the Sand Rock Lady Wildcats didn’t let that affect the way they approached the Class 2A, Area 12 tournament on Thursday.

The Lady Wildcats swept Gaston in convincing fashion 25-4, 25-5, 25-7, then defeated Spring Garden for the fifth time this season in the tournament championship 25-10, 25-13, 18-25, 25-17 to improve to 45-8 on the season.

Katelyn St. Clair delivered 31 kills and 21 digs for the Lady Wildcats. Lanie Henderson contributed 29 kills and six blocks. McKenna Ballenger posted 86 assists and four aces. Caley Garrett collected 58 digs and five aces.

Jadyn Foster managed 22 kills, six aces and three blocks. Jacey Stephens had seven kills and 16 digs. Chloe Stephens finished with eight aces, three kills and 28 digs.

Neely Welsh collected 22 kills, seven blocks, four digs and three aces for the Lady Panthers, who swept Westbrook Christian in their tournament opener 25-20, 25-16, 25-21. Suzie Carter contributed 17 kills, six blocks and a pair of digs. Alle Jennings added 12 kills, a block, an ace and an assist. Abbey Steward delivered 59 assists and a pair of kills.

Aubrey Sadler had 12 kills. Layla Ingram came away with three kills, an ace and an assist. Abbie Woods managed three assists and a dig. Timi Scoggin finished with three aces and a pair of digs.

Sand Rock faces Area 15 runner-up Pisgah at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the North Super Regional in Huntsville. Spring Garden takes on Area 15 champion Ider at 10:15 a.m.
