Sand Rock girls hold on for 54-52 win at Gadsden City; boys fall 86-78

GADSDEN – Sand Rock’s girls opened the 2021-22 basketball season on Tuesday, holding on for a 54-52 victory at Class 7A Gadsden City.

Lanie Henderson led the Lady Wildcats (1-0) with 15 points and nine rebounds. Katelyn StClair tossed in 11 points. Haley Grace Lisenbee collected 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Caley Garrett came away with eight points and six assists. Arleigh Beard delivered six points and 10 boards.

The Lady Wildcats play in a tournament at Geraldine beginning on Monday.

In the nightcap, the Wildcat boys fell 86-78 to even their record at 1-1. Kaden Justice led the Wildcats with 28 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Jacob StClair contributed 24 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Jacob Cornejo posted 11 points and 13 boards.

Maleek Kidd led Gadsden City with 24 points.

Sand Rock plays at Boaz on Monday.
