An increased law enforcement presence in the Sand Rock resulted in two arrests.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, deputies working from the mobile command unit in the area witnessed a passenger of a vehicle throw a syringe out the window across the street from the school.

Classes were dismissing, and there were children on the playground in the park at this time.

The officers stopped the vehicle for traffic violations.

35-year old Joshua Wayne Ellison of Leesburg and 35-year old Brian Ray Hulsey of Sand Rock were both arrested for no seat belt, criminal littering, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The state probation officer also placed a probation violation charge on Hulsey and a parole violation hold on Ellison.

Both men are currently being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center.

This past Thursday, Sheriff Shaver deployed the Mobile Unit to the Sand Rock area in response to an increasing number of property crimes especially thefts, that has been seen not only in our area, but practically everywhere.

He says the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office believes strongly in utilizing proactive methods to combat crime, and previous deployment of that unit, has resulted in significant reductions in calls for service, and in criminal activity, especially in the Spring Garden and Broomtown areas.
