Repeated phone calls reporting yet another scam, this one regarding con-artists claiming to be with the Social Security Administration, led to WEIS Radio News calling the number that was provided to us by local residents – and lo and behold – the scammers answered it.
Now bear in mind this is a VERY short edited version of what went on for about 20 minutes Tuesday.
The number they’re using is (206) 567-9331. A quick Google search prior to our call to that number revealed that multiple complaints have been reported in association with the scam, and that very number.
Now, the real number to contact the Social Security Administration is 1-800-772-1213, and this is what you hear:
Remember if someone calls YOU asking for sensitive information, hang up, then look up the proper number, and call THEM. That way, you know you’re talking to the right person and/ or agency.
Scammers are working around the clock to take advantage of people – don’t be a victim. Be aware.
