The Cherokee Electric Co op would like to warn the public that another scam is making the rounds and this one is using their name. 

Someone claiming to be with the Co op is calling residents of the area, and for some strange reason is trying to sell security systems.  Go figure.

Anyway, they’ve managed to “spoof” the phone number – in other words, the number that’s showing up on the caller ID actually IS THE CORRECT NUMBER FOR CHEROKEE ELECTRIC – but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s the Co op – it’s just a trick con artists use in an attempt to, well, “con” you.

It’s a scam.

Before they get to the part where they start asking for personal private information such as credit or debit card numbers, bank account numbers or anything like that, including having you send them money by using a Green Dot card – Just. Hang. Up.

This has NOTHING to do with the Cherokee Electric Co op.
