SCAM ALERT! / Scammers Using WEIS Radio Phone Numbers

The Holiday Season is traditionally the time of year when all the Scammers and Con Artists step up the pace and go into high gear – so – without going into a great amount of detail, we here at WEIS Radio just want make a few quick points:

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

If you didn’t play, you didn’t win.

Don’t believe everything you hear.

Never, ever give out personal, private information over the phone – through text, e-mail OR whatever to someone you don’t know – especially if THEY contacted YOU.

You don’t have to pay a FEE up front to collect your prize in a legitimate contest – and that’s especially true of Publisher’s Clearing House.  We don’t care what the liar on the phone tells you.

The IRS is NOT going to send law enforcement to arrest you TODAY.  If Uncle Sam really has a problem with you – you’ll receive a letter through the mail.  THAT’S the time to maybe get a little nervous.

Also, if you see OUR NUMBER – WEIS RADIO – on your caller ID on your phone, and it’s tied in with any of these or for that matter any other type of scam – IT’S NOT US.  Scammers have gotten better at what they do – and they’re now able to make it appear that they’re calling from wherever they choose – by having that number show up on caller ID.  For example the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has had problems with this repeatedly – and now our numbers are showing up locally.

The next time a scammer calls and our number shows up, request a song – and hang up.

Problem solved.
