Scammers are apparently just not going to fold when it comes to trying to deceive unsuspecting victims of their money.
On Tuesday, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department informed WEIS Radio News that the latest attempt is from an organization who calls themselves the Awards Notification Commission based out of Kansas City, Kansas.
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce website, Award Notification Commission is a typical prizes and lotteries scam full of misleading claims and misrepresentations such as “confirmed winner”.
The official looking letter states: “The office of the Kansas City KS organization Award Notification Commission will begin payout authorization directly after deadline transferring your “potential status” to confirmed winner of $2,000,000 according to the terms and conditions of this letter if you have and provide the original preselected winning number.”
Read the fine print and you’ll discover that you haven’t won anything yet. Award Notification Commission operates a sweepstakes.
The winning number has already been predetermined. You must enter the sweepstake to see whether your number is the winning number.
If the owner of the winning number does not respond, Award Notification Commission gets to keep the big bucks and instead will distribute smaller prize amounts ranging from $10,000 to $50.
Basically this is just another attempt to get you to send money scammers that you will never see again and further fine print associated with this particular scam states that they will even be nice enough to make their mail order list (including your detailed information) available to other scammers.
