As we have told you over and over again, scammers will stop at absolutely nothing to try and steal from unsuspected victims. They’ve been out in full force over the last several days.

The latest attempt really shows how desperate these thieves are. We received a call from a local resident who informed us she received a call from someone claiming to be with the Ellen DeGeneres Show. They told our intended victim that she had won $8million dollars and a brand new Mercedes Benz…the catch, you ask? She just needed to send $200 to claim her winnings. Well, we know this, it wasn’t the Ellen Show that called.

The red flag in this case is the obvious fact that if you indeed won something, you are not going to send any amount of money over the phone to collect your prizes.

We also received a report from one of our listeners this week who told us that he received a call from a con artist claiming to be from WEIS Radio with the scammer telling the man he owed an outstanding debt of $150.

The long and short of it is these con artists are trying to get information from you that they do not need. Don’t fall for it! NEVER give out your credit or debit card or personal information over the phone. For that matter don’t give these people your time, just hang up!
