We’ve had several reports of telemarketers illegally using the phone number of New Bethel Baptist Church over the last couple of days.  These con-artists are in no way associated with the church in any shape, form or fashion.

What they’re actually doing is known as “spoofing”; it’s a process whereby the disreputable telemarketer, or let’s just called them what they are, “crooks” and “scammers”, will attempt to hook victims into answering their phone because it appears to be a local number – in this case, New Bethel Baptist Church.

This is nothing new – “spoofing” has been done using the numbers of prominent citizens in and around the area, and in one case, these individuals were even using numbers belonging to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Again, be aware that New Bethel Baptist Church is in no way associated with these people.
