‘Scandal’s’ Guillermo Diaz, gets creepy on ‘Dating Game Killer’

ABC/Bob D’Amico(NEW YORK) — Scandal‘s Guillermo Diaz plays creepy tech guy Diego “Huck” Muñoz on the ABC show, and he’s going creepier with his new project — playing serial killer Rodney Alcala, in the Investigation Discovery biopic, Dating Game Killer. Alcala was a contestant on The Dating Game while in the middle of a murder spree that claimed the lives of as many as 130 women and children in the 1970s.

It turns out the popular game show didn’t perform background check on its bachelors, which in Alcala’s case, would’ve uncovered some disturbing information. “He was already a convicted rapist, a registered sex offender, and yet he still was chosen to be on the show,” Diaz tells ABC Radio. “And the bachelorette chose him. He won the show.”

The movie recreates Alcala’s Dating Game appearance, and the 42-year-old actor recalls, “I had the footage on my phone and I watched it over and over and over and then I tried to sort of imitate that.”

Dating Game Killer premieres Sunday night on Investigation Discovery.
