School Board Holds Executive Session To Discuss “School Safety”, No Decision Made Regarding School Resource Officers

The Cherokee County School Board held a brief Executive Session during a work session. The board met behind closed doors for approximately 15-20 to discuss ways to improve on school safety. The board not only discussed school resource officers, but other ways to increase safety measures at each school in the district. There was no decision made in regards to school resource officers.

There are nine statutory reasons that a school board can enter into an Executive Session with one of those reasons being to discuss security plans, procedures, assessments, measures, or systems, or the security or safety of persons, structures, facilities, or other infrastructures…the public disclosures of which could reasonably be expected to be detrimental to public safety or welfare. Examples of matters that can be discussed under this provision include consideration of adopting new school safety measures, details of safety protocols and other discussions regarding keeping stakeholders safe without disclosing protections to the public.
