School System Officials To Preview New School Year On WEIS Radio

The new school year is just around the corner and to get you ready WEIS Radio will be sitting down with Cherokee County School System officials this week to discuss a number of issues related to education.

On Monday, Jerry Baker will speak with Brett Keasler about Career Tech including issues related to enrollment, class offerings, the bond issue, potential new career tech courses, and facility improvements.

Jerry will then talk with County School System Nurse Theresa Thompson about medication guidelines, immunizations and when you should keep a student home from school due to illness.

Keasler and Thompson will be in the studio from 7:15 until 8:45 a.m. Monday.

The interviews will continue the rest of the week at the same times.

Tuesday’s guests will be Jayne Davis who will speak about Federal Programs such as Title I, the new Pre-K at Spring Garden School and the Indian Education Program and Dr. Ann Dykes who will be discussing Child Nutrition.

On Wednesday, Dewayne Pierce will discuss curriculum and assessment, including the move to Common Core Standards, Professional Development, and the move to Block Scheduling.

Then on Thursday, Dr. Jimmy Myrick will be in to talk about technology including a new policy to allow students to bring smart phones and other electronic devices to school this year.

Also Thursday, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Trina Wood will discuss a number of issues ranging from school advisory councils and student dress code to the attendance policy and safety plans.
