evenfh/iStock/Thinkstock(CAIRO) — Scientists have discovered a new chamber in the Great Pyramid of Giza, the first discovery of its kind in more than 100 years.
According to an article published in the journal Nature, the discovery was made by using muons — the byproducts of cosmic rays that are only partially absorbed by stone. The resulting image found a large “void” named the ScanPyramids Big Void.
Scientists do not yet know the role the void played in the Great Pyramid’s construction, or its use.
