Seat Belt Violation Leads to DUI Charge and Drug-Related Objects Arrest

A simple Seat Belt violation led to bigger problems for a pair of Chattooga County residents, following a stop by a Sheriff’s Office Deputy on Highland Avenue.

According to reports as the deputy approached the truck he noticed the odor of alcohol and as a result the driver – 24 year old Brooke England of Summerville was placed under arrest and charged with DUI, and a Violation of the Open Container Law.  A passenger in the truck, 27 year old Zachary Hamby of a Trion address was also arrested after being found with five drug needles in his pockets.

According to that report Hamby was charged with Obstruction of an Officer after telling the deputy that there was nothing in his pockets that would “stick, poke, or cut” the deputy.  He was additionally charged with Possession of Drug Related Objects.
