Section Mayor Found Guilty of DUI

Fossett, RonSection Mayor Ron Fossett was found guilty of DUI on Monday.

Fossett had been arrested in June of last year (2013) near his home – after an off-duty Scottsboro Police Officer called 9-1-1 to report that a car was being driven erratically. According to WAFF TV48, trial testimony revealed that Fossett was going to fire Section Police Officer Barry Munza that night; Munza said he worked for a short time following the arrest.

Officer Munza testified that the mayor admitted to having two wine coolers, and he discovered a mixed drink in the console of the car.

As he was about to place the mayor under arrest, Munza said Fossett told him he was fired – jail officials testified that the mayor repeated the statement that he intended to fire Munza.

Sharon Patterson, whose 13 year old daughter was in a truck that was allegedly almost struck by Fossett’s car when he ran a stop sign, expressed her concern:

Fossett was sentenced to 90 days in jail but the judge suspended the sentence. He was ordered to pay $600 in fines and $550 in court costs – Fossett’s attorney said they do plan to appeal.
