Senator Andrew Jones Selected To Serve On Six Senate Committees

State Senator Andrew Jones (R-Centre) has been tabbed to serve on six committees in the Alabama State Senate and will serve as Vice-Chairman of the Children, Youth, & Human Services committee, which will handle legislation related to the Department of Human Resources.

Jones will serve on the Senate standing committees for Confirmations; Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry; Banking & Insurance; Transportation & Energy; Tourism; and Children, Youth, & Human Services. Bills are debated and refined in standing committees, and if given favorable review, are forwarded on to the entire Senate for consideration

The Confirmations committee in the State Senate has the exclusive role of considering appointments, including those to state university trustee boards.

“I look forward to starting the legislative term in March and working with Governor Kay Ivey and my fellow legislators to advance conservative bills that will roll back burdensome regulations on small businesses and strengthen and improve Alabama’s schools,” Jones said.

“I think my background as a farmer and a small business owner will allow me to quickly get up to speed on the specific challenges facing Alabama’s farmers, as part of my work on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry committee,” Jones continued. “Additionally, given the need for investment in roads and bridges in northeast Alabama, I look forward to my work on the Transportation and Energy committee.”

A Republican, Jones won election to the Alabama Senate on November 6th, in his first run for political office.

The 2019 regular session of the Alabama Legislature will start on March 5th.
