Senator Phil Williams Presents Cherokee Co. School Board With $4,800 Grant

 

During Tuesday’s meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education, State Senator Phil Williams (pictured below) brought some good news in the form of a Grant Presentation to the board.

In other business, Transportation Supervisor presented the board with a resolution from Governor Robert Bentley recognizing School Bus Safety Week.

The board also discussed the detail the idea of forming a Student Advisory Committee with Board Member Brian Jennings leading that discussion, Jennings said that the overall objective of the Student Liaison will be to utilize a county wide student committee as a feedback and learning resource for the board.

Jennings explained that the committee will be made up of students from each of the county’s high schools; students will represent different aspects of learning environments such as dual enrollment, advance placement, the tech school and other areas to be determined.

The board will then be able to utilize the committee for real time feedback on a braod range of subjects including classroom instruction feedback, distance learning feedback, online subject availability wish list, obstructions to effective more productive learning as well as technology hiccups and other pertinent issues.

Superintendent of Education Mitchell Guice said that he would be further discussing the issue with each of the principals in order to move the program forward.

The board also selected Board Member Jennings as the Delegate to represent Cherokee County at the AASB Delegate Assembly on December 3rd in Birmingham; Board Member Lynn Rochester was selected as the alternate.

Also approved was the Assistant Maintenance Supervisor, General Maintenance and Assistant Maintenance Supervisor – HVAC Salary Schedule as presented in the November 8th meeting, a revised Maintenance Worker Salary Schedule was also approved as presented at the same aforementioned meeting.

Homebound Tutoring Contracts were approved with Tujuana Coley and Deborah Parris as well as an agreement with Humitech to install and service humidity control panels for the coolers in each of the schools cafeterias to be funded by Child nutrition.

Personnel Items included;

The Retirement of Pam Gossett, Special Education Teacher at Gaylesville School following 22 years of service, effective November 1st.

Certified Placement of Cliff Bailey as Special Education Teacher at Gaylesville School effective November 1st

Supplement changes included the transfer of Sand Rock Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Supplement from Barry Mauldin to Sarah Battles effective November 1st

Leave of Absence was extended for Theresa Thompson, Nurse Surpervisoe and Paul Sewell was added to the list of certified Substitute Teachers.

There were two Job Postings announced, those being for a Registered Nurse at the Cherokee County Career and Tech School and an Assistant Maintenance Supervisor with HVAC County Wide.
