Serious Accident on Highway 9 South / UPDATED

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a serious single-vehicle accident shortly before 8:30 Monday morning on Highway 9 south between County Roads 178 and 18 about eight miles south of Centre.  A car had left the roadway going around a curve and traveled down a steep embankment.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report, the driver of that 1997 Pontiac, identified as 31 year old Charles Still of a Piedmont address was injured – however no additional information regarding the extent of his injuries was noted.

The report listed the time of the accident as “unknown”, so it’s unclear how long the vehicle had been down the embankment prior to being noticed.

Those responding to the scene included Cherokee EMS, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Ellisville Fire Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee County EMA Director Shawn Rogers and Alabama State Troopers.

The cause of that accident remains under investigation.
