The Senate is set to vote on Jeff Sessions’ confirmation today (Wednesday, February 8th) – and it appears the Mobile native is poised to make history, by becoming the first Alabamian to be named U.S. Attorney General. Since that post was established back in 1789 there have been 83 permanent or acting Attorney Generals.
As the Attorney General Sessions’ will fall seventh in line in order of presidential succession behind the Vice-President, Speaker of the House, President pro tem of the Senate, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury and Secretary of Defense.
Sessions, in his new role, will oversee more than 100,000 Department of Justice employees.
