Several Key Decisions During Monday’s Meeting of the Cherokee County Commission

Several key decisions were made in regard to both county business, and to policies in the Monday morning meeting of the Cherokee County Commission.

Commissioners voted to approve an updated agreement with McKee & Associates for architectural services on the new Cherokee County Courthouse, which will be located on the former site of the Centre First Baptist Church.   And, the demolition agreement was also approved with Ingle Demolition & Salvage, Inc.

The Commission likewise approved an Electronic Pollbook “Sales Order Agreement”, with Election Systems & Software for the purchase of thirty ExpressPoll tablets, with stands, for a total of $39,550.  Chairman Tim Burgess stressed the need for high-level operating systems saying “An election is an area in which we have no room for error”

In other business, a motion was also passed to sign the participation agreement with the ACCA Workers Compensation Self-Insurers Fund for the period October 1st, 2021 through September 30th of 2024.  Approval was granted for amendments to be made  to the Cherokee County Personnel Policies & Procedures Manual, and for a variety of office supply items from the Revenue Commissioner’s Office to be sold as surplus.

Discussion was also given to the face that the County Commission Office is receiving a significant number of calls regarding garbage service in the county, with questions in regard to service, replacement of cans, holiday hours and so on – with many of those callers saying they’re unable to locate an up-to-date number for Waste Management; those contact numbers are (256) 792-6001 and (256) 792-6004.

The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission is slated for Monday, October 25th at 5:00pm taking place in the County Administration Building on the Cedar Bluff Road in Centre.
