Several Portions Of Cherokee County Saw Flooding Over The Last Couple Of Days

Cherokee County has certainly experienced its fair share of rainfall over the last 24-48 hours, receiving well over seven inches.

On Wednesday, Cherokee County EMA reported numerous trees downed across the county due to saturated ground conditions.

A number of roads were also reported to have been flooded including portions of County Road 147 in Leesburg, Highway 411 South and Hale Drive in Leesburg, County Road 9 6 and County Road 99 in Broomtown, County Road 96 at County Road 921 in Broomtown, Highway 278 near Spring Garden General Store, Boundary Ave., Williamson St., Broad St., and Lawrence St. in Cedar Bluff, Cedar Bluff Road at Park Street, Jackson Street in Centre, County Road 535 in Cedar Bluff, Hardwood Drive in Centre, Sewell Ferry Road in Cedar Bluff, ¼ mile off of County Road 69 at County Road 76, County Road 22 near the Bypass (Larry’s Towing) and County Road 726 in the Cedar Bluff.

On Thursday portions of County Road 126 from Alabama Highway 278 to the loop at Highway 278 were completely closed due to water across the road in addition to County Road 185 from County Road 126 to County Road 8 which was also closed due to water across the road.

The Cherokee County Highway Department issued an advisory for County Road 8 due to water across the road.

The Spring Garden Fire Department, Piedmont Rescue, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Cherokee County EMA Officials responded to County Road 126 were a female was reportedly stuck inside  her vehicle in the rapid flood waters but was fortunately able to get out safely.

An Aerial Flood warning was issued for Cherokee County by the National Weather Service until 8:15 Thursday evening.
