Severe Weather Possible for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

OVERVIEW: 

A strong storm system will approach Central Alabama Thursday with widespread showers and storms out ahead of a cold front.  Severe storms, including a few tornadoes are possible as a cold front moves eastward across Central Alabama.  Current timing has showers and storms coming to an end Thursday night through Friday morning. 

Stay tuned for further refinements in terms of timing and specific threats.

CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS FORECAST: 

Timing has trended slower and Slight risk area has been adjusted to focus in the southwest.

                   * All of Central AL, highest chances in the southwest.

WHEN: 

                   * Thursday night through Friday morning, 9 PM – 8 AM.

THREATS: 

                   * Damaging straight-line winds up to 60 mph.

                   * Tornadoes

                   * Minor flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas.
