Shaver and Amos Move to the Republican Party

Cherokee County Republican Executive Committee welcomes new members Sheriff Jeff Shaver and Circuit Clerk Dwayne Amos

Linda Picklesiemer, Chair of the Cherokee County Republican Party, announced today that Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver and Circuit Clerk Dwayne Amos have both announced their affiliation with the Republican Party, citing differences in personal and professional beliefs with the platform of the Democrat Party.

According to Chairwoman Picklesiemer, the executive committee of the local Republican Party unanimously supported the decision of both Sheriff Shaver and Circuit Clerk Amos.  “2016 was a good election year for America with the election of Donald Trump and locally with the re-election and election of 4 local Republicans here in Cherokee County. And now the year will close out with 2 additional Republican officials, Sheriff Shaver and Clerk Amos.We are very excited they each made this personal choice and we will support both of them as they continue to serve the citizens of Cherokee County,” stated Picklesiemer.

Sheriff Shaver believes it is important that the citizens of Cherokee County know the reasons behind his decision to join the Republican Party.  He said, “over the years the national Democrat Party has become increasingly more liberal, and it made a dramatic swing to the left in the most recent campaign.  Also, their lack of support for law enforcement is particularly disturbing.”

Shaver went on to say, “I have always been a conservative and find that my personally held beliefs are more in line with the platforms of the Republican Party.  Regardless of party affiliation, I maintain on open door policy, and that will not change.  I appreciate the opportunity to serve ALL the citizens of Cherokee County.”

Circuit Clerk Dwayne Amos said, “policies of the Democrat party have grown so liberal that I can no longer defend their views or principles.  Being a U.S. Army veteran and former State Trooper, I do not share the beliefs of the Democrat Party.  Their stance on the 2nd Amendment, and their compliancy with removing God from every aspect of our lives and many other policies leave me with no choice but to leave that party and join one that is more in line with my personal beliefs.”

Amos further stated, “I have always strived to be the best Circuit Clerk that I could be and made a promise to this county that I would serve with honesty and integrity.  I appreciate the support of my family, friends and the members of the executive committee.  I will always strive to treat everyone that comes into my office the same as always, with respect.”

The Alabama Republican Party Steering Committee will take action in the coming days on Dwayne Amos’ request to be recognized as a member of the Republican Party.

Chairman Picklesiemer encourages all conservatives to join the local Republican Party in supporting Sheriff Shaver and Circuit Clerk Amos as they carry out their respective duties for the people of Cherokee County.Any conservative in Cherokee County that is interested in becoming involved with the local GOP may contact us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/CherokeeCountyGOP/?fref=ts.
