Shooting Incident Leads to Car Crash Saturday Night

Shooting InvestigationDuring a bizarre series of events Saturday, one person was shot, and another fled the scene after crashing a car into a house.

According to Gadsden Police reports at around 10:30 that night, 28 year old Delvin Lamont Russell managed to catch a ride to a home on North 9th Street. While waiting for Russell to return the two occupants of the car saw him speaking to a man on the front porch – and as Russell began walking back toward the vehicle the man on the porch pulled out a handgun and began firing – apparently striking the victim more than once.

After the gunman fled, the two men in the car picked Russell up and were about to take him to the hospital when the driver, amidst all the confusion, lost control of the car and crashed into a house further down the block.

The driver then fled on foot.

Russell was eventually taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center – suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the leg, arm and side; he was later transported to UAB Hospital.

No additional information regarding his condition has been released and the search for the gunman continues.
