Shorthanded Lady Warriors earn 60-31 basketball win at Coosa, Ga.

COOSA, Ga. – Class 4A, No. 10 Cherokee County was shorthanded on the basketball court Friday night at Coosa, Ga. Starters Audrey Green, Sidney Johnson and Mary Hayes Johnson were competing in the 4×200 AHSAA Indoor State Track Meet in Birmingham, where they finished first in 4A and fourth overall.

The rest of the Lady Warrior basketball players didn’t use their absences as an excuse not to play well. Karlee Perry rang for 24 points, including six 3-pointers, and Audrey Haygood contributed 14 in a 60-31 victory.

The Lady Warriors (21-5) now prepare for Area 10 tournament play. They will host Etowah on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Warrior boys weren’t as fortunate on Friday. They fell by the final of 52-49.

Connor Elrod connected on three 3-pointers and had 17 points to top the Warrior scorers. Nas Diamond delivered 11 points. Slade Alexander added eight points and Malachi Horton finished with six points.

Jaqueze Morgan and Keshaun Kindred led Coosa with 17 points apiece.

Coosa built a 26-14 first-quarter advantage and held a 39-29 edge at halftime. Coosa led 48-39 at the end of three quarters and had to hold on in the fourth for the final.

Cherokee County (10-15) travels to Etowah to begin the area tournament on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
