On Wednesday, a significant amount of Methamphetamine was recovered after a car chase began near the Cartersville community.

A Deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of County Roads 155 and 169 for a headlight violation. During the course of the stop, it was discovered that the vehicle had a switched tag. The driver also presented false identification.

While investigating the occupants, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed and the pursuit crossed into Jackson County.

Later, near the intersection of Highways 117 and 71, the vehicle abruptly turned into a yard; throwing the passenger out while trying to exit the vehicle. The driver was caught after a brief foot pursuit and the passenger was found hiding in the woods.

Approximately one gram of Methamphetamine was found near the passenger and a further 10 grams was discovered in the vehicle after a search was conducted.

The driver, Chasity Summerford (38 of Flat Rock) was charged with Attempting to Elude, Reckless Endangerment (2x), Resisting Arrest, Use of False ID to Obstruct Justice, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

The passenger, Amber Turner (31 of Flat Rock) was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Attempting to Elude.

Both are currently being held in the DeKalb County Detention Center.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the arrests: “Endangering our Deputies and civilians on the roadways with reckless chases will not be tolerated. You will be caught and charged to the fullest extent. Especially when dangerous drugs such as Methamphetamine are involved.”

“I want to commend our Deputy for his attention to detail and alertness in this pursuit, as well as getting more of this dangerous drug off our streets,” said Welden.

“God Bless,” Sheriff Welden Concluded.
