Singer Taylor Swift donated $5,000 to the GoFundMe account that was set up for the family of a JSU student killed in a Labor Day auto accident.

18 year old Katie Beth Carter was returning from her home in Ringgold, Georgia – when her 2011 Honda Accord collided with a tractor trailer about 3:30 that afternoon some ten miles north of Jacksonville.

The accident took place at the intersection of Highway 278 and Roy Webb Road; Carter was air-lifted from the scene to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where she was pronounced dead at 6:00pm.

Its believed that Swift’s contribution came about because of social media.  According to the GoFundMe page, Swift made that donation on Thursday – and addressed her condolences to Carter’s sister Kimi.

According to a report by al.com, the goal of that GoFundMe account page is $40,000 and as of Monday morning more than $37,000 has been raised to help offset medical and funeral expenses.
