Single-Vehicle Accident on Highway 35 Near Blanche Crossroads Sunday Night

A stretch of Highway 35 near the Blanche Crossroads was shut down for an extended period of time Sunday, after a vehicle left the roadway and traveled down the side of the mountain just before 10:00pm.

A motorist called Cherokee 9-1-1 and reported that he’d witnessed the vehicle behind him go off of the roadway and down the side of the mountain. Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene and found the vehicle around 10 – 15 feet down the embankment, lodged against a tree.

Cherokee County Rescue Squad members with the assistance of Broomtown Firefighters were able to extricate the driver from the vehicle and he was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

Traffic remained down to one lane as crews worked to recover the vehicle.

DeKalb Ambulance Service, Floyd EMS and Alabama State Troopers also responded to the scene.

We will have more information as soon as the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency accident report is available.
