Single-Vehicle Accident West of Gaylesville / Traffic Being Diverted Due to Diesel Fuel Spill

We have a report of a single-vehicle accident occurring just after 7:00am Friday just west of the four-way stop in Gaylesville.

It appears as though an 18 wheeler lost fuel from a ruptured tank after striking something in the roadway – with the driver of the vehicle that wrecked losing control after skidding in the spilled fuel.  The car rolled over onto its side and the injured driver was entrapped for a short time; the extent of that person’s injuries is not yet known.

The EMA has been called to the scene along with first responders.  Early indications are the leak on the 18-wheeler may have started around the area of Brad’s One Stop, and continued all the way to the Gaylesville four-way stop.  The leak has been contained.  The Department of Environmental Management has been contacted and the Alabama Department of Transportation has officials en route.

Motorists should avoid that area if possible; otherwise, all traffic is currently being diverted onto County Road 41.

We’ll have additional information as it becomes available.
