Small Fire Reported At Cherokee Milling On Tuesday Night

Centre, Cedar Bluff and Leesburg Fire Departments were called to Cherokee Milling on Tuesday night in response to a possible structure in on the of the storage warehouses. 

According to Centre Fire Chief Jeremy Lee, units arrived on scene to find heavy smoke at the building. A smoldering fire was found in one of the pellet bins. A handline was deployed into the building and a bobcat was used to remove the smoldering pellets. Firefighters soaked the pellets as they were removed to the parking lot. There was no structural damage and an exhaust system was used to remove the smoke.

The exact cause of the fire is not known at this time. Floyd EMS also responded to the scene as a precautionary measure.
