Snow flurries possible across parts of Alabama on Christmas Eve, according to the National Weather Service.   Any accumulations are expected to be “fairly light and confined to grassy surfaces,”

A cold front entering Alabama on Wednesday night brought rain, and a few storms, to north and north/central parts of the state overnight.

Temperatures are expected to fall through the day on Thursday, and north Alabama could fall below the freezing mark by the afternoon.

No widespread snow is expected for central Alabama however light flurries will be possible across the northern-most part of the region Thursday afternoon and night, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham; forecasters say elevated surfaces, such as bridges and overpasses, may need to be monitored for slick spots Thursday night.

Bitter cold temperatures will likely remain into Saturday morning.  Temperatures on Christmas morning may bottom out in the teens in north Alabama, and in the 20’s in central Alabama, and the upper 20’s in south Alabama.

Temperatures are forecast to moderate somewhat over the weekend – and the next chance for rain will arrive late Sunday into Monday.
