“SO-COOL” Summer Program to Kick-Off June 4th

The So-Cool Summer Program for Kids is gearing up for its 23rd year of camp – taking place June 4th – July 11th at the Centre Elementary School Gym (Closed July 4th – 6th).

So-Cool is a FREE program for kids age eight to twelve, filled with fun, educational activities including field trips, sports activities, talent shows, and much more.  Children also have the opportunity to enjoy special programs presented by the City of Centre Fire Department and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office along with the Weiss lake Improvement Association.

Kids get to attend VBS at Pine Grove Baptist Church – participate in dramas, arts, music and more. The City of Centre provides the City swimming pool for So Cool kids to enjoy during camp.  The large variety of daily programs are organized and led by CED Mental Health staff and college students – with activities including a talent show, patriotic luncheon, water day, field trips to the Cherokee County Historical Museum Little River Canyon National Preserve and others.

Throughout the camp children will learn from community and business leaders: Pool Safety from Gadsden State Cherokee Nursing Students, Dental Hygiene from Sarrell Dental, Drug Prevention from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Prevention and Safety Tips from the City of Centre Fire Department, a visit from a mobile unit for health checks from Quality of Life Health Services and the importance of water quality and litter pickup from the Weiss Lake Improvement Association to name just a few examples.

Camp is from 8:00am – 4:00pm weekdays.  Children are provided with breakfast, lunch and a snack through the Cherokee County Board of Education Summer Feeding Program.

Registration forms will be available on-site each morning of camp.

The 23rd annual So-Cool Summer Program is sponsored by the Centre Rotary Club, the City of Centre, Cherokee County Commission, CED Mental Health and Cherokee County Board of Education in addition to a number of local businesses.
