A member of the Piedmont City Council is expressing concerns that a recent change regarding utility bills will be an undue burden for residents.

During a recent council meeting, Ben Keller stated that he has been approached by several of his constituents regarding the changing of the late date from the 15th to the 10th of each month.

Keller believes making the late date five days sooner may negatively impact seniors, people on disability and others living on a fixed income.

Councilwoman Mary Branmblett also expressed concerns about the change.

During the meeting, officials said there is a policy in place that allows for exceptions regarding late payment dates for seniors.

Keller asked the council to revisit the issue during the next meeting.

The new policy is set to take effect in October.
