Southside Man Arrested on Warrants in Leesburg; Stolen Shotgun Recovered

WeathingtonA traffic stop conducted by Leesburg Law Enforcement led to the arrest of a Southside man on Cherokee County warrants during the early morning hours of Wednesday.

38 year old Joseph Eugene Weathington was pulled over by Officer Joe Johnson on County Road 7, and was found to be in possession of a shotgun, which had been reported stolen to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office back in 2010.

Leesburg Police Chief Lanny Ransum stated that the ATF has been contacted in connection with the incident, and that Weathington could be facing federal charges in connection with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

He was booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center just after 4:00am Wednesday – charged with Receiving Stolen Property 3rd Degree – in addition to warrants for receiving stolen property and other offenses.
