Spring Garden baseball pounds Cedar Bluff on senior night

SPRING GARDEN – Spring Garden’s baseball seniors combined for five home runs and 14 RBIs in a 17-3 win over Cedar Bluff on the Panthers’ senior night on Tuesday.

Luke Welsh homered twice and drove in five runs to lead the Class 2A, No. 3 Panthers (20-12). Weston Kirk collected three hits, including a homer, and three RBIs. Ryley Kirk was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Grayden Guthrie went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Chapel Pope, Chaz Pope and Denver Jarrett also had hits for the Panthers.

Welsh, Guthrie and Kenneth Petty all pitched for Spring Garden, which travels to Sulligent to open the state playoffs on Friday. Cedar Bluff (6-9) also opens the Class 1A state playoffs on the road Friday at Lynn.
