Spring Garden baseball rallies past Ranburne, 3-2

OXFORD – Spring Garden’s Chaz Pope delivered the game-winning hit at Oxford’s Signature Field, scoring Jackson Maddox from first base in the Panthers’ 3-2 baseball win over Ranburne on Thursday.

Pope went 3-for-4 with a RBI. Maddox was 3-for-3.

Ranburne took a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning before the Panthers rallied to tie the game in the bottom half of the sixth. Weston Kirk and Luke Welsh delivered RBI-hits in the inning.

Kirk went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Welsh was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Ryley Kirk went 1-for-2 with a walk.

Weston Kirk picked up the win on the mound. He tossed all seven innings, scattering four hits with eight strikeouts.

“That was a good win against a playoff team,” Spring Garden coach Tony Benefield said. “That’s the type of game that will get us ready for the playoffs.”

Spring Garden will take on Oxford at Signature Field on Friday at 6 p.m.
