Spring Garden boys, girls combine for 23 treys in basketball sweep at Cleburne County

HEFLIN – The Spring Garden Panthers sank 13 3-pointers in a 69-32 boys basketball win at Cleburne County in the Heflin Holiday Hoops Tournament on Wednesday.

Weston Kirk led the Panthers (9-3) with 20 points, including five treys. He also had eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Chaz Pope popped a pair of 3-pointers and had 10 points. He also collected nine boards, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Ryley Kirk had a pair of treys and came away with eight points, six assists and two steals. Cam Welsh, Jacob Welsh and D’Angelo Wright finished with seven, six and five points respectively.

The Panthers led 18-9 at the end of the first quarter. They went on a 25-8 run in the second to take a 43-17 advantage at halftime.

In girls action, the Lady Panthers connected on 10 3-pointers to cruise to a 73-29 victory.

Neely Welsh led Spring Garden (16-2) with 13 points, including a pair of treys. She also blocked two shots, had two steals and an assist.

Lexie Adkison and Maggie Jarrett both tossed in 10 points. Adkison added six rebounds, a steal and a block while Jarrett also had eight boards, two blocks, an assist and a steal.

Abbie Woods canned three treys and came away with nine points, two rebounds and a steal. Sarah Kate McKay also managed nine points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block. Ace Austin contributed eight points, 10 boards, nine assists, four steals and a pair of blocks. Olivia Law finished with seven points.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 28-9 advantage at the end of the first quarter. They led 50-11 at halftime.
