Spring Garden, Cherokee County girls advance to county title game

CENTRE – Top-seeded Spring Garden jumped out on a 23-0 first-quarter run en route to an 87-19 blowout win over Cedar Bluff in the Cherokee County Tournament on Friday.

The Lady Panthers connected on 14 3-pointers in the game. Ace Austin topped all scorers with 19 points, including three treys. She also had six rebounds, five assists, three steals and a pair of blocks.

Sarah Kate McKay managed 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, four blocks and a steal. Abbey Steward and Neely Welsh both contributed 14 points. Steward sank four treys and had six rebounds, two steals and two assists. Welsh had a pair of treys with eight boards, four blocks, three steals and two assists.

Abbie Woods collected 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Lexie Adkison finished with seven points, three rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block.

Jordyn Walker led Cedar Bluff with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Spring Garden led 38-3 at the end of the first quarter and held a 67-6 advantage at halftime.

The Lady Panthers advance to Saturday’s 5:30 p.m. championship game against Cherokee County.

Cherokee County 61, Sand Rock 45

CENTRE – Karlee Perry sank six 3-pointers in leading the Cherokee County Lady Warriors to a 61-45 victory over Sand Rock in the Cherokee County Tournament on Friday.

Ella Garmany added 11 points for the Lady Warriors. Mary Hays Johnson and Audrey Green both had nine points. Sidney Johnson finished with five points.

Lanie Henderson led Sand Rock with 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Haley Grace Lisenbee contributed nine points and seven rebounds. Katelyn St. Clair came away with eight points, four rebounds and four assists. Maci Brown posted six points and 10 rebounds. Arleigh Beard finished with five points and 11 boards.

Cherokee County led throughout the game. The Lady Warriors built a 19-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter and held a 30-23 edge at halftime.

An 18-7 run in the third quarter increased the Lady Warrior lead to 48-30.

Cherokee County advances to Saturday’s tournament championship game where they will face Spring Garden at 5:30 p.m.
