Spring Garden softball defeats Ider, Ragland on first day of Spring Swing Tournament

JACKSONVILLE – The Spring Garden Lady Panthers opened the Spring Swing Softball Tournament with a pair of wins on Monday at Jacksonville State University’s Softball Field. They opened with a 9-4 win over Ider, then outlasted Ragland 10-9 to improve to 9-4 on the season.

In the win over Ider, Madison Brown delivered a pair of hits, including a double, with a run and four RBIs. Ace Austin and Kylie-Grace Wood both went 3-for-4. Austin scored twice and drove in two runs.

Avery Steward, Abbey Steward and Maggie Jarrett each had a pair of hits. Abbey Steward also scored a run. Kayley Kirk doubled and scored a run. Abbie Woods and Neely Welsh both added a hit. Woods drove in a run and Welsh scored a run.

Wood earned the win in the circle.

Against Ragland, the Lady Panthers scored a pair of runs in the fifth to provide the winning margin.

Avery Steward went 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs and a RBI. Kirk was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs. Brown collected two doubles, a walk, a run and two RBIs. Welsh added a hit, a run and a RBI. Layla Ingram contributed a hit, a walk and two runs. Austin had a hit, a walk and a run. Jarrett and Abbey Steward both had a hit and a RBI. Wood finished with a hit.

Spring Garden hosts the second day of the tournament today at 11:30 a.m. The Lady Panthers will take on Gaston, then battle Hokes Bluff at 3 p.m.
