Spring Garden’s Cam Welsh tough-luck loser at 7A Hewitt-Trussville

TRUSSVILLE – Spring Garden pitcher Cam Welsh tossed five innings of one-hit baseball, but was the tough-luck loser at Class 7A Hewitt-Trussville on Monday. The final was 2-0.

Welsh didn’t allow an earned run and had six strikeouts for the Panthers (13-8). Jackson Maddox tossed the last inning allowing no hits or runs with a pair of strikeouts.

The Panthers had a scoring opportunity in the fifth inning with one out, when Grayden Guthrie drew a walk, followed by singles by Jarrett and Welsh. With the bases loaded, Chapel Pope grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Welsh, Chapel Pope and Denver Jarrett had Spring Garden’s hits.

Spring Garden plays Sylvania on Tuesday at Choccolocco Park in Oxford at 11 a.m.
