State Representative Ginny Shaver And State Senator Andrew Jones Present Contributions To The Cherokee County School Board

As part of two required budget hearings the board must hold, Chief Financial Officer Robin Cunningham presented the first official review of the Board of Education’s proposed budget for the upcoming Fiscal Year. Cunningham said that she projects the beginning balance to be $21,385.614 with revenues totaling $42,458.350 and expenditures totaling $55,579.816 leaving a projected ending balance of $8,554.483.

The proposed annual budget is developed for fiscal year beginning October 1st and ending September 30th and includes funds received and generated from State, Federal, Local and other financing sources. The board will hold a second public hearing on the budget before it is officially adopted.

In other business, State Representative Ginny Shaver and State Senator Andrew Jones were in attendance during the meeting and brought forth some good news –

Senator Jones said that in the near future each teacher across the county will receive $100 from a micro grant that will help with the out of pocket expense for teaching supplies.

The board also approved the 2019-2020 renewal of the Alabama Trust for Boards of Education Automobile fund participation in addition to the 2019-2020 renewal of the Alabama Trust for Boards of Education General Liability/Errors and Omissions Liability fund participation.

2019-2020 Energy Savings Budgets were approved for Centre Elementary and Gaylesville Schools respectively.

The following bids were approved; HVAC to Wittichen Supply Co. (sole bidder), Fuel to Cedar Bluff Oil (sole bidder), Propane to Blossman Gas (low bid), Tires to Westmoreland Tire (low bid) and Garbage Service to Republic Services (sole bidder).

Out of State Travel was approved for Andrew Miller and the Spring Garden FFA to attend the National Convention in Indianapolis in October to be funded by the students/parents.
