Steve Harvey Says Showtime at the Apollo “Is Like Nothing Else”

ABC/Adam Taylor(NEW YORK) — Steve Harvey is headed back to the Apollo stage to host the two-hour Showtime at the Apollo special and says the show’s performances and tributes will stun you.

“Ah, man, it’s so many great performances — so many tributes, but what made the Apollo famous was amateur night,” Harvey tells ABC Radio. “That’s what made it famous and that’s what we’re going to do is amateur night, it’s that one person. There’s some people that come out there that’s going to stun you with how good they are.”

The comedian, who hosted the television show from 1993 to 2000, says the show, which ran for twenty-one seasons and was his first television gig,  left a lasting impression on him sixteen years later.

“It was crazy man because that was my first TV show,” he says. “That was the very first time I was on TV. That stage is crazy because the Apollo is like nothing else.”

Although Steve admits he’s a fan of the platform that has helped many unknown performers make strides in their careers, he acknowledges that not everyone who hits the Apollo stage will become a star.

“Everybody don’t make it at the Apollo, I’m sorry. Everybody don’t make it, it’s impossible,” he 

Showtime at the Apollo hosted by Steve Harvey airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
