Storm Damage Reported Across the Area Wednesday Night; Rainsville Hardest Hit

Strong thunderstorms rumbled across the area on Wednesday night leaving many in northeastern DeKalb County in the dark, as an apparent tornado touched down close to Rainsville, causing widespread damage in the Powell and Sylvania areas, as well as the Tenbroeck community.

Numerous trees and powerlines were also reported down across DeKalb County, and damage was reported to a building on Church Street in Rainsville; both Cherokee and Etowah counties were placed under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and a small part of southern Cherokee County and a portion of northern Calhoun County, were placed under a Tornado Warning.

There was a report of a pole barn being destroyed in the Glencoe area with moderate damage being reported to one home and minor damage to another in Etowah County.

WEIS Radio is currently awaiting word from officials at the National Weather Service, regarding the storm damage in Rainsville.
