Stranded Families Being Rescued From Campground In Spring Creek Community

WEIS Radio News has learned that several residents are being rescued from a campground off of County Road 450 on Spring Creek by members of the Spring Creek Fire Department and the Cherokee County Rescue Squad.

It appears that water has overtaken all the campers in that campground and there appears to be additional families stranded. Stay with WEIS Radio News for additional information.

Cherokee County EMA is urging residents who live in flood prone areas on the to find a safe place to stay if you have not already done so until the lake level recedes.

Weiss Lake is now three feet eight inches above the full mark and is in the flood stage with many docks, piers, and boat houses underwater or partially submerged. Alabama Power is now predicting the lake to crest on Friday at 569.5 feet which is almost two feet above where the lake is now which will cause more flood damage.

The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Warning for Weiss Lake through Friday.
