Strong Storm Produced Torrential Rainfall, Heavy Winds, Flooding And Wide Spread Power Outages On Monday

Numerous trees were downed, several streets were flooded and large portion of the county was left without power on Monday evening as a strong thunderstorm rolled across the area.

Cherokee County EMA reported trees down in several locations including: Park Street in Centre, Pine Street in Centre where power lines were also reported down, County Road 41 in Gaylesville near the state line, Alabama Highway 35, County Road 19, County Road 828 where power lines were also reported down and County Road 60 at County Road 95.

There were several locations in downtown Centre where water completely covered the roadway including locations on Park Street and King Street.

Cherokee County EMA officials captured footage of that rotating storm Monday evening. 

The time-lapse video shows a mesocyclone near Centre and Cedar Bluff. Officials said the footage was taken around 6:18 p.m. The 16-second video is a time lapse of about four minutes.
